Video has become the dominant trend. Social platforms such as Facebook and Twitter are all building their own social video markets, and even Twitch, the leader in live game streaming, has taken advantage of the wave to launch its own social app. Google is therefore also pushing out a social app based on YouTube.
Recently, Google, through its in-house incubator Area 120, launched Uptime, a social app based on YouTube, so you can now interact with friends while watching a short video!
This video-focused social app is, in short, built entirely on YouTube videos, but it has a colourful look similar to Snapchat. By inviting friends, users can chat and send stickers within a single YouTube clip.
For example, we can share different YouTube videos as our updates, and other people can chat or send emoji within that video. Along the edge of the video, you can even see the profile pictures of friends who have already watched it, which is quite a novel feature.
