Will Phone Filming Struggle to Go Mainstream?

Phone specs keep getting more powerful, and they can even shoot 4K. Will phones replace traditional video cameras? Unlikely! Here are the 7 fatal weaknesses of shooting video on a phone:
【01】Difficult to shift focus
It is very hard to shift focus, that is, to move the focus from subject A to subject B, and it is not accurate!
【02】Difficult to track focus
For example, if you use a phone to film yourself walking from the doorway into a room, the phone's lens may change its focus while you are moving, and you end up out of focus and blurry!
【03】Difficult to achieve shallow depth of field
The sensor in a phone is small, so it is very hard to achieve a shallow depth of field. I only want to film you, but with a phone I might have no choice but to capture the good-looking guy in the background as well!
【04】Aperture not wide enough
With an aperture that is not wide enough and a sensor that is not big enough, it is hard to achieve shallow depth of field, and night-time shooting ability is affected as well.
【05】Inaccurate colour
The colour reproduction of phone video still needs improvement, and it takes a lot of colour grading work in post-production.
【06】Prone to camera shake
The convenience of a phone's form comes at the cost of easily introducing camera shake. With a handheld phone, the slightest movement of the wrist can easily make the footage shake!
【07】Doesn't save much
Don't assume that shooting on a phone saves a lot. There are some savings, but not much. Shooting on a phone can reduce crew, but having fewer people leads to longer shooting time and higher costs. The savings are small, yet they come with the quality problems above, so for now commercial film investors simply won't consider shooting on a phone.
