Although more and more VR cameras are appearing on the market, very few models can actually shoot at 4K quality. You may think of the Nikon KeyMission 360, but it is quite large and somewhat cumbersome. The Cameo360, developed by Flick Labs Inc., claims to be the world's smallest VR camera. It recently completed a successful campaign on KickStarter and has now moved to another crowdfunding platform, FundThis, to launch a new campaign. So besides its compact body, what else does it offer?

Body Smaller Than the Hero 5 Black

The square-bodied Cameo360 is designed to be light and portable, measuring just 46 x 46 mm, which is smaller than both the Nikon KeyMission 360 and the GoPro Hero 5 Black. Interestingly, its front and rear lenses are not placed in the centre of the front and back of the body but towards one side, a layout somewhat similar to that of the GoPro Hero 5 Black.

The camera uses a sealed body design and is waterproof to 30 feet (about 9 metres) without needing a separate waterproof housing. This still falls short of the KeyMission 360's waterproofing, but in terms of portability it actually beats its rival.

Records 4K at 24fps Video

The Cameo360 connects over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to its own mobile app, Flicksee, for framing and shooting. It records video at 4K and 24fps, as well as 24-megapixel photos. It also has electronic image stabilisation, so users can still capture steady, clear footage when shooting handheld. Videos and photos taken with the Cameo360 can be shared directly from the camera to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and more.

Supports Facebook 360 Live Streaming

The Cameo360 has a 360-degree panoramic live streaming function, allowing users to broadcast live through social platforms such as Facebook or YouTube, although the manufacturer has not disclosed the video resolution for this. It offers four shooting and preview modes: Flat Mode, Fish Eye Mode, Sphere Mode and VR Mode. As the name suggests, once VR Mode is activated, users can put on a VR headset and view the camera's footage in an immersive way.

The most attractive aspect of this camera is still its low price. The current crowdfunding early-bird price on FundThis is US$175 (about NT$5,300 / HK$1,400 / RM750). Besides the camera and a USB charging cable, the package includes a selfie stick with a phone holder, so users can mount a phone on the stick to help frame shots. The product is expected to ship on 15 August 2017.
