Recent major announcements in the gadgets world have mostly been about smartphones. Are computers and digital cameras really that uninteresting? Not at all. Lenovo and Acer have already announced that they will bring several major new notebooks to the IFA electronics show in Berlin at the end of this month. In addition, Japan's two major camera makers, FujiFilm and Nikon, are also preparing to release their mirrorless and DSLR cameras in September, and both new models have been upgraded to 4K video to keep up with the trend.
Although Lenovo and Acer have both released promotional videos for IFA, they give little away. By contrast, rumours about the two new Japanese cameras are rampant. FujiFilm's new mirrorless camera, the X-E3, will certainly be the star of the launch event on Thursday, 7 September. Besides using a newly developed image sensor and supporting 4K video recording, it will also integrate a dial control into the shutter. As for Nikon, to celebrate its 100th anniversary, it has teased the imminent arrival of the full-frame DSLR D850. As mainland Chinese websites leak more and more information, the key upgrades of the new model have been almost fully revealed, including a 45.75-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor with no low-pass filter, a 153-point AF system, an electronic shutter, a large 0.75× viewfinder, and continuous shooting of 51 14-bit RAW frames, among others. It can also shoot 4K video and 8K time-lapse recordings. Apart from continuous shooting speed, its specifications appear more comprehensive than those of the company's flagship D5. We will have to see whether the price surprises photographers as well.
