Lenses come in many types, from compact, high-quality prime lenses to all-in-one superzooms that can do it all. Tamron has recently launched a lens with an extremely high zoom ratio, breaking the record for superzoom lenses.
The new Tamron 18-400mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD is billed as the world's first ultra-telephoto all-in-one zoom lens, with a zoom ratio of up to 22.2x. Designed for APS-C cameras, it covers a focal range of 18-400mm, which is equivalent to 28-600mm in 35mm terms, so even very distant subjects can be captured. The lens barrel is 122mm long and weighs 706g. While it is not particularly lightweight, it saves the hassle of changing lenses and is useful on certain occasions. The lens uses an HLD focus motor and offers 2.5 stops of image stabilisation compensation.
The lens is priced at US$649 (approximately HK$5,000), which is not very expensive, and is expected to be released at the end of July. Those who are interested may want to keep an eye on it.
